"Starfish", by Lorna Dee Cervantes is a poem about starfish on the beach. Cervantes writes about how there are thousands of starfish, just lying lonely on the beach. She also mentions the neat way they lay, to hide from their enemies. A fem poetic devices are used in this poem, for example the most obvious; imagery. The imagery that Cervantes uses makes the reader feel like they are actually standing on a beach, surrounded by starfish. Also, a metaphor is used, she writes "Together: little martyrs". "Starfish" is a free verse, and does not follow any set pattern. This was definitely not my favorite poem, mostly because it has no meaning or significance to me, although it was very well written.
